Utah Global Health Alliance?

Posted by chads on January 15, 2008

I’ve been thinking periodically about a Utah (or LDS? or something else?) Global Health Alliance for a few years now, so I thought I’d write about it. I envision an umbrella organization that provides a place for:

-NGOs to receive technical assistance.

-Students and others to come to learn about work, volunteer, and research opportunities.

-Academics to collaborate.

-Donors to find a recipient that share their vision.

I think it is a great idea, Chad. I also really think it is needed. One group you may want to look at (at least from a local perspective) if you push forward with such and alliance is the University of Utah. The university has recently (last few years) formed an alliance called the University of Utah Global Health Alliance, but they do little to nothing with NGO’s, mostly offer opportunities to medical and other graduate students, and tend to focus on a few specific international sites. Despite being around for a little while, they are still organizing. I would like to see more discussion on this idea.

Thanks, Ben. Now all we have to do is get 7-8 NGOs, a few donors, 2-3 academics institutions, and a hand-full of other people committed.

Does the Utah Global Health Alliance have I website (I couldn’t find one)?

The University of Utah Global Health Alliance is actually currently working on a web page. I will let you know when they get it up and running.
